Questions for kids to think about
What is soil? Is it alive or dead?
Is it made of one thing or many things?
Where does it come from? Does anything live in it?
Is it the same in all places? (color, texture, etc.)
Is it the same in every season in one place?
Can human actions change it? Can humans create it?
Can all things grow in any kind of soil?
Things you can do:
Find different types of soil. Collect it in separate little baggies and bring it to show.
Ask someone who is from a different state or country some of the questions about soil.
Read up on it in books or on the Web. Find it in a dictionary or encyclopedia.
